The Prosecco may have kicked in, but Charlotte and I knew we were on to something that night. We weren't alone in having trouble pushing ourselves forward or having our efforts and skills appreciated. The really fabulous women we knew were going through it too. Exceptional people were being overlooked and undervalued, while those of little talent and lots of chutzpah were raking it in: appreciation, recognition and reward.
Our epiphany came from the ever-growing realisation that marketing is becoming more important than mastery. It's not enough to be truly great or talented any more. You have to get your message out there and be your own greatest ambassador.
You started life curious, full of wonder and pretty damn happy with yourself. Now it's time to get back to basics and remember that about yourself. Anything else is just rubbish you've picked up along the way. Let's give some airtime to our real selves: the ones wh
o know that life is fun and we're here to play.
Try it now. Just say 'I Am Fabulous'. I guarantee it will make you laugh. Now add what you want to that. Charlotte's genius ad lib was 'Show Me The Money!', but you can add anything you like. Show me the respect, the love, whatever. Have fun and above all, enjoy it.
'I Am Fabulous' lightens the heart, makes you giggle and still reminds you exactly how great you are and can be. Partner it with 'Show Me The Money' and you have the perfect saying to repeat to yourself next time you're going for a promotion or a raise.
Try 'I Am Fabulous - Show Me The Love' the next time a relationship is not all you want it to be. Just get creative and use it for any area of your life where you need a boost.
My friend Rosie, a hypnotherapist, is already using it with her clients. It makes them laugh and it makes them feel better about themselves. Charlotte used it with a male friend and it had the same effect. 'I Am Fabulous' is for everyone. Secretly, though, girls, this one is really for you ...
